What does the R.D. stand for? Rayne Dylan

How old are you? You know that's not polite, right? I'm in my early thirties.

What's your sign? Capricorn...which means that both I'm creative and moody.

What do you do for a living? I've had a couple of jobs, and I'm always on the lookout for something better. Right now I'm focusing my energy on my part time freelancing business.

Are you single? Hey! That's not on the questionnaire.

Oops. Sorry. So, how long have you been writing? I started writing poetry around 14 or 15. I dabbled with short stories for a while but didn't get into writing them seriously until I was about 23.

Which do you prefer? The stories or the poetry? Hmm. You know, they're almost worlds apart. The short stories I write are a chance to transform into someone else, whether it's the average person getting lucky in love or a mythical creature. To do it well, I have to put myself into their shoes. The poetry is more...well...me. It's an outpouring of whatever emotion I'm feeling at the time.

I have to ask this. Where do you get your inspiration? From my life, mostly. Obviously my works are fiction though. I'd hate to have people thinking I'm running around with delusions of being a vampire. I often have to rely on a vivid imagination. Still, there's a little bit of me in most of my main characters. How much of me depends on the storyline. If you'd like to know more you can check out my page on inspiration.

Even in the steamy ones? Steamy ones? I wouldn't say that I've ever written anything overly explicit and...why are you looking at me like that? I'm a tad bit shy when it comes to some things and I have to say that I've always believed a little mystery is much more alluring. I just put the thoughts in the reader's head and let their own mind take it from there.

Lucky readers...um...I didn't say anything? So, are there any writers who have inspired you? Definitely. While I will admit to not being a fan of her more recent works, I love Patricia Cornwell's first few books in her Kay Scarpetta series. I admire Caleb Carr's writing style, and most of Radclyffe's work is amazing. Anyone who can make a scene come alive in front of me has my utmost admiration.

You wouldn't happen to be working on anything right now, would you? I'm always working on something. I've compiled a book of poetry, but I'm still not sure if I'll try to have it published. There are a few short story ideas that need to be sorted out. And I've had this idea for a full length novel running around in my head for a while. I should really get it done.

Do you have anything going on other than writing? What do you do in your spare time? What spare time? It almost seems like there's always something going on. One of my passions is website design and I'm constantly tinkering with designs here and there. I actually have around four active sites right now.

A little birdie told me that one of those sites is earmarked as an archive for upcoming authors. Any comments? That's absolutely correct. It's simply called Rayne's Place and it's just somewhere that lesbian authors of original fiction can feel free to share their work with the world. I'd like to ultimately expand it to include fan fiction and the like, but I am only one person so we'll see.

I know there are a lot of people who'd like to get in touch with you. How can they do that? Just drop me a line at rdwylder at yahoo.com. I will admit that I have been bitten by the Facebook bug too so you can add me there as well.

Any words to live by? Be true to yourself. Sometimes that's hard to do but always listen to the little voice in the back of your head that says "This is who I am. I am happy with myself and that is something worth fighting for".
